a university in Philadelphia caused controversy by making fitness courses. The students who are overweight are required to follow fitness class that if they want to graduate and get a diploma. Health experts also spoke about the fitness classes.

Parties Lincoln University said that the rule was created due to high rates of obesity and diabetes among these college students, particularly among African-Americans. With this rule, the figure could be reduced and students will have a healthier body.

“At present the problem of obesity has become epidemic, so we felt it necessary to hold the class” said James L. DeBoy of Lincoln’s Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Tiana Lawson (21 years), one student with excess weight in college, said, “I was on campus to learn. But why should be burdened with such rules if they want to pass?” he said.

Mandate issued by the campus that requires all students tested for Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine whether normal weight or not. Normal BMI value is between 18.5 to 24.9.

For students who value a high BMI, which means that excess body weight, it is obliged to follow a fitness class called the ‘Fitness for Life’ if you want to get a degree from the University.

Classes were taught aerobic fitness and physical activity weight-loss options. And do not forget nutrition counseling, stress and difficulty sleeping.

Mark Rothstein, health experts from the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, said that the rule is a brilliant idea and great to make students healthier. “But not if it’s the execution and ketidaklulusan threat to students,” said Mark.

But the college says that the class that was one of the courses with the credit system really does not force anyone to lose weight drastically.

“We’re being proactive like this because you want more students to move in a way to attend and participate in this class. If the results of weight at the end of the class will still not match the standard BMI, it’s fine as long as there is a process that way,” said Deboy.

The experts assess health and diet, a fitness class that could endanger the students because they can trigger actions that weight loss is not recommended for passing grades. Besides BMI value can not only be a benchmark to determine whether someone is overweight or not.

“Over the weighted student body can do more physical activity well, that’s no problem. Sports are not the only way to get someone to avoid obesity and diabetes. It is not fair it would have to use this way to make students healthier,” said Marcia Costello from Villanova University.
